The Goal

Clarify the shared vision for the firm to achieve profitable and strategic growth.

The Challenge

A highly successfully Washington D.C law firm wanted to build on their greatest strength—their team.  The firm of 40 lawyers is recognized as the premier expert in four diverse practice areas. Although the firm as a whole shared a common purpose and values, there was uncertainty about the vision. The firm wanted to clarify their vision and unify their direction to attract and retain the best lawyers in Washington D.C. They also wanted to leverage their unique expertise to proactively respond to the changing legal marketplace.

The Solution

We conducted an all-attorney and staff survey to understand the team’s perspective on what was working well and what could be improved.

Utilizing the data we collected, we facilitated a two-day strategic planning retreat with equity partners.

We then defined the firm’s shared vision and identified the firm’s top priority objectives.

We scheduled practice group strategy meetings to align the practice group’s objectives with the firm’s shared vision.

We scheduled an all attorney retreat to communicate the shared vision and to build esprit de corps.

We established a dynamic 90-day action plan clarifying specific objectives, goals and timelines.

The Results

Equity partners are aligned around key growth initiatives allowing for more productive and efficient execution of strategies. An important practice area was restructured improving morale and profitability. Practice area marketing plans were created, resulting in increased clarity on financial goals, target markets/clients and key differentiators.
