The Goal

Position the firm for future growth and success while maintaining the firm’s culture.

The Challenge

As one of the most respected family law firms in Texas, this firm had built a reputation for helping clients achieve advantageous outcomes. Top lawyers with common values were brought together initially by founding partners. The challenge was to continue growing the firm and plan for the departure of the founding partners who established the firm’s guiding principles and were top originators for the firm.  In addition, leadership was being transitioned to a new managing partner. The firm needed to define their shared vision for the future and create a plan on how to achieve that vision.

The Solution


We implemented a strategic planning process with equity partners to create a 3-year strategic plan.


We collected and analyzed external and internal data including client and staff surveys, financial and origination data, competitor information and market trends


We then facilitated a two-day partner retreat to define the firm's vision and create an action plan for achieving the firm's most important goals


We conducted a 90-day follow up meeting to review and update the 90-day action plan established during the strategic planning retreat.

The Results

The partners were aligned and focused on top priority strategic initiatives which resulted in forming a merger with another top family law firm in Texas with the same guiding principles. Communication was improved among the three offices and equity partners. Since working with Ferris Consulting, the firm’s financial and profitability targets were met and top lawyers were recruited to the firm.
