Ferris Consulting Principle 3

Identify and seek out desirable clients and referral sources

Once you have defined your core message, determine who would benefit from your services. This includes referral sources, key influencers (thought or opinion leaders) in your community, your professional network and prospective clients.

You have limited time and resources and can’t be all things to all people. Take the time to identify key referral sources, clients and organizations/groups that would most benefit from knowing about your service.

Determine what are the common characteristics, interests, problems and traits of this group. Be specific and write down the characteristics of the individuals, professionals and referral sources that meet your criteria. Develop an outreach plan for those you want to contact about your practice.

By actively identifying and seeking out desirable referral sources and clients you will be more focused on building a successful practice.
